Ugyanakkor statisztikai becslések alapján az Egyesült Államokban 2030-ra a hasnyálmirigy rák a második leggyakoribb daganattá válhat megelőzve az emlő és a vastagbél daganatokat is. Hazánk a Wold Cancer Research Found International statisztikájában a pancreas rák incidenciáját tekintve a világon holtversenyben a 3-4. helyet foglalja el, 100 ezer lakosra számolva 9,3-as előfordulási rátával. Önmagában már ezek a tények is indokolják, hogy foglalkozzunk a betegséggel és annak kezelésével. Másfelől sajnálatos, hogy kezelési kísérleteink eredménye messze elmarad a más szervek esetén elvárt vagy megszokott eredményektől. Ezért a pancreas carcinoma halálozása továbbra is igen magas.
