A tudatos jelenlét (mindfulness) jelenre fókuszált, elfogadó és nyitott figyelmet jelent valamennyi külső és belső élmény iránt. Jellemzője a gondolatokra és érzésekre vonatkozó értékelésmentes (metakognitív) figyelem.
A kognitív terápiás módszerek harmadik hullámába tartozó tudatos jelenlét alapú terápiák az élmények iránti elfogadó attitűdöt hangsúlyozzák (az élmények elkerülésére irányuló törekvések általában fokozzák azok intenzitását). A metakognitív képesség erősítésével annak tudatosítására törekszenek, hogy „egy gondolat nem más, csak egy gondolat”.
A tudatos jelenlét alapú terápiák számos kontrollált vizsgálat alapján hatékonyan csökkentik a különböző szorongásos betegségek (pl. generalizált szorongás, pánikbetegség) tüneteit, illetve a depresszív epizódok ismétlődésének valószínűségét. 2011 márciusában az Elfogadás alapú terápia Amerikában bekerült a bizonyítottan hatékony terápiás eljárások jegyzékébe.
A tudatos jelenlét alkalmazása jól ötvözhető különféle terápiás megközelítésekkel. A módszer célcsoportja igen széles: alkalmazzák daganatos betegségek, szorongásos zavarok, depresszió, evészavarok, párkapcsolati zavarok, illetve személyiségzavarok esetén is.
A Szimpózium során az előadók betekintést nyújtanak a tudatos jelenlét alkalmazási területeibe és lehetőség nyílik a tudatos jelenlét meditáció sajátélmény-szintű megtapasztalására is.
