Access Resources for Kidney Patients!

AAKP proudly recognizes October 19–25 as National Infection Prevention Week, reaffirming our commitment to protecting kidney patients, caregivers, and the professionals who serve them. Infections remain a leading cause of hospitalization and complications for people living with kidney disease, but simple actions—consistent hand hygiene, staying current on recommended vaccinations, safe catheter and access care, proper environmental cleaning, and staying home when ill—saves lives. All week, AAKP will share educational resources, patient voices, and practical tips.

The Pocket Guide is a tool to help patients and caregivers have more effective dialogue with their healthcare teams.

Course Description
Skin pigmentation is a major protective factor of human skin health. It is the most prominent phenotypic characteristic of humans. Its disorders can manifest as a wide spectrum of hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation and depigmentation, including various benign and malignant skin diseases, which are common skin conditions diagnosed and treated by dermatologists. Protection against the harmful characteristic of ultraviolet radiation (UVR), which is a common skin ageing-inducing and carcinogenic factor, without skin pigmentation is impossible. In recent years, incredible progress has been made in understanding the regulation of human skin pigmentation and photo-ageing, the influence of different visible light spectrums, and the importance of UVR protection for pigmentary processes in the skin.

Pharmacological agents and cosmeceuticals, options of aesthetic medicine and LASER procedures to control skin pigment has been a goal in both the medical and cosmetic fields and has significant implications for skin cancer prevention, photoaging, and aesthetics. On the other hand, skin in colour and its diseases, which are phenotypically different than the known pictures in fair skin, currently, gains a great interest and the resulting knowledge invites dermatologists to become familiar with it. That is why it is necessary to delve into various aspects of human skin pigmentation, including its biochemical and hormonal control, response to UV, manifestations of skin pigmentation abnormalities, diseases and ageing, diagnostic techniques as well as pharmacological and interventional manipulations in both fair skin and skin of colour, in order to help patients as effectively as possible in daily dermatological practice

Learning Objectives
1. Basic understanding of melanocyte biology.
2. Basic and modern understanding of the pigmentation processes in human skin.
3. Clinical comprehension of dermatological pigmentary conditions, abnormalities and diseases.
4. Molecular aspects of pigmentary conditions, abnormalities and diseases.
5. Current pharmacological and interventional manipulations for the main pigmentary skin conditions, abnormalities and diseases.

TREAT-NMD’s 8th International conference on translational medicine in inherited neuromuscular diseases runs from February 6th to 8th, 2025, in Dubai, with a key objective of sharing progress in translational medicine and plan for future therapies.

As part of the conference, we will be hosting a poster exhibition and would like to invite academics, researchers, patient organisations, advocates, industry, government agencies, and healthcare professionals to submit a poster abstract that will be displayed as part of the exhibition.

This is a prime opportunity to highlight the great work happening throughout the neuromuscular and rare disease community, as well as helping contribute to global advancements in healthcare.

Why Submit an Abstract?

Submitting an abstract and having it accepted for presentation at the conference offers you numerous advantages, including:

  • Showcasing your achievements – present your research, projects, or initiatives to an international audience of colleagues, experts, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrating effective strategies – share your successful ideas, methodologies, and interventions that have proven effective in improving healthcare for rare neuromuscular conditions that can be adapted by others.
  • Fostering collaboration – spark meaningful conversations, forge partnerships, and initiate collaborations with teams from around the world, encouraging a supportive network dedicated to advancing neuromuscular care.

What Are We Looking For?

This year’s poster topic is ‘Networking and Collaboration’ so we welcome abstract submissions centred on:

  1. Collaborative projects that highlight initiatives that facilitate the enhancement of healthcare for rare neuromuscular conditions through cooperation and partnership.
  2. Partnership working that shows how your organisation has collaborated with TREAT-NMD to benefit the global neuromuscular community.
  3. Utilisation of TREAT-NMD resources to advance research, clinical care, or patient advocacy efforts.

Submission Guidelines:

  •  Abstracts should be concise and informative, clearly outlining the objectives, methods, results, and conclusions of your work.
  •  Submissions must align with the themes and focus areas of the TREAT-NMD 2025 Conference.
  • Abstracts should adhere to the specified format and guidelines provided on the conference website.

Deadline for Submissions:

The deadline for abstract submissions is 18th October 2024. Please ensure submissions are completed well in advance to allow for proper review and consideration. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out on 8th November 2024 after review by the Programme Committee.

How to Submit:

Abstracts can be submitted through the designated portal on the TREAT-NMD website. Detailed instructions and submission guidelines are available on the conference website here.

Join Us in Advancing Neuromuscular Care

We invite you to seize this opportunity to share your expertise, contribute to the collective knowledge, and help shape the future of neuromuscular healthcare worldwide. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of individuals affected by rare neuromuscular conditions.

WELCOMING ADDRESS BY THE EDF PRESIDENT

Dear EDF Members
Dear Corporate supporting Members
Dear Guests
On behalf of the EDF Board, I am delighted to welcome you to the 28th EDF Annual Meeting. We are looking forward to spending 3 days in a convival atmosphere supporting education, scientific exchange and collaboration.

This EDF Annual Meeting takes place each January in Switzerland and is designed to address several of the significant issues impacting dermato-venereology and ranging from clinical, scientific to political matters. In January 2024, we will again meet in Montreux, a traditional spa town nestled among steep hills on the shores of Lake Geneva. The town is known for its mild microclimate and the Montreux Jazz Festival in July. Magnificent Belle Époque buildings line the waterfront surrounded by sculptures and Mediterranean trees. The medieval Chillon Castle is located on an island offshore. The moated castle includes ramparts, reception halls and a chapel with 14th-century murals.

In 2025, the EDF Annual Meeting will be held again at the Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic, a 4-star hotel in the style of the Belle Époque situated at the heart of Montreux, directly on the banks of Lake Geneva. At the main meeting we will discuss and debate a wide range of current dermatology and venereology topics. The EDF Board has put together an exceptional program based on scientific and medical excellence with plenary talks, two interactive sessions as well as updates from our commission groups and sister societies, whilst at the same time being mindful of diversity, gender and geographical balance.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in person at the 28th EDF Annual Meeting in Montreux.

Also, do feel free to contact our PCO, conventionTEAM AG, if you have any further questions or suggestions.

With best regards,
Marie Aleth Richard
