20th ESH – EBMT Training Course on HAEMOPOIETIC STEM CELL TRANSPLANTATION
Chairs: J. Apperley, E. Carreras, E. Gluckman, T. Masszi
Every year, the ESH-EBMT Training Course provides a comprehensive training in all aspects of autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation and comprises a mixture of formal lectures, case presentations by attendees and faculty, meet-the-expert breakfasts and dinner table discussions. For each topic an explanation of the basic principles is provided, followed by development of the subject through to the most recent advances in understanding and management. The objective of the course is to give opportunity to the attendees to have close contact and lively interaction with the teachers and the group in a nice setting. All slides will be available onsite. The speakers are chosen not only for their expertise in their subject but also for their teaching skills and willingness to discuss the field of transplant in both
formal and informal settings. The course is suitable for physicians at all stages of their career and is particularly useful for those in training, for those who wish to develop their current practice to a more challenging type of transplant and also as an update for established transplanters.
The program will include:
• Plenary sessions
• Clinical cases
• Poster presentation
• Breakfast meet the expert sessions
• Meet the expert dinner
2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the ESH-EBMT Training Course. This year, the Training Course lasts 3 full days for still more learning and networking.
There will be 4 Breakfasts Meet-the-Expert sessions each day: 8 in total!
Do not miss the opportunity to share 3 full days of learning and socializing with international experts and peers!
New ! Workshop on communication skills in the clinical setting – Thursday May 12, 2016
1PM-2:30PM
Patients in all settings give a high priority to communication as a key aspect of care. Their expectations in clinical consultations are that these are conducted honestly with straightforward understandable information given by empathic clinicians who are sensitive to their emotions and who will listen to them, and involve them in decision making.
An important way to raise awareness of the skills required for good communication with patients is by participation and observation rather than didactic teaching.
The use of actors as both clinician and patient/relative in simulated consultations provides a powerful means of examining the problems associated with difficult conversations in a setting where a variety of alternative approaches can be safely explored.
In this workshop, the delegates will be asked to provide examples of conversations that they find difficult in clinical practice. From these suggestions, they will create a realistic clinical scenario with the help of the facilitator and will then be able to watch the actors exploring the consultation in a role-play.
