On behalf of the ACCP President and Board of Regents, it is a pleasure to invite you to attend CHEST 2008. I am sure you will find the program very useful and stimulating. To ensure the quality of the program, all the proposals submitted by the ACCP NetWorks and members were graded and selected on the basis of their merit. A template allocating percentages to all topics in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine was adhered to, ensuring that the annual meeting remains balanced. In addition, provisions have been made, so cutting-edge, groundbreaking sessions can be added to the program, giving you the latest information possible.

The theme of this event is “Best Evidence in Practice”, at which strong importance will be placed on communication between the various disciplines involved in intensive care. Participants will have the chance to attend a series of specific presentations addressing the following themes; airway management & coagulation, sepsis, acute respiratory failure, nutrition & fluid replacement, bariatric surgery, haemodynamics, paediatric traumatology, quality management, economics, risk management, pain management & safety, emergencies in neurology, imaging & monitoring, and infections, as well as, networking with other colleagues in the field.

The prevalence of many cardiovascular diseases increases exponentially with ageing, especially coronary heart disease in women, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, hypertension and some valvular heart diseases. This situation is a challenge for modern cardiology since all surveys show that management of elderly and advanced elderly patients differs from what is observed in younger patients and does not follow international guidelines. This is the reason why the ESC and the WHF will highlight this subject at WCC 2006 in a series of dedicated sessions analysing the situation and examining the differences and/or similarities between recommendations and management modalities in the ageing population with cardiovascular disorders as compared with the younger generation.
Deadline for Pre-registration: 31 July 2006.
After 31 July 2006, you will need to register on-site in Barcelona. The registration desk will be open from 10:00 on Friday 1 September 2006. |
