The UEMS European Training Requirements (ETRs) represent the consensus view of the National Medical Associations and Specialist Bodies of our organisation for high standards in modern medical specialist training and education in Europe. An ETR describes, in three parts, the requirements for all participants in the training process: trainees, trainers and training institutions. The UEMS ETRs promote progress in postgraduate education. They are conceptualised and composed according to the principles of Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) and they foster patient-centred care. The postCovid era poses great challenges for the current educational practice. These times invite all involved in medical education to advance postgraduate training in a spirit of inclusivity and transparency, and to foster dialogue on important educational topics and innovations. The UEMS is conducting a Study on the Implementation of the ETRs in the UEMS Member Countries. Information from the preliminary evaluation of this survey will be shared at the conference. It will serve as a basis for further analyses, and strategies to support improvement in postgraduate medical training and its implementation, thus working towards improved healthcare outcome for patients across Europe.
