Fetal echocardiography was introduced in our country in 1984 by Krisztina Kadar right after to the first publications appeared in Europe. Nowadays this echocardiographic methods is well-known in pediatric cardiology practice. For obstetricians it is necessary to check the fetal heart as well during their routine screening. Due to our regular teaching courses over the last two decades in some Centers results are improving. Using complete fetal echocardiography in selected cases (with the indication for fetal echocardiography the experienced fetal echocardiographer is able to diagnose most congenital heart defects with high diagnostic accuracy, and to diagnose and to manage transplacental approach of most severe tachyarritmias as well.
Some years ago in 1994 a small number of fetal echocardiographers set up a team (we called ourselves a „travelling Group) in the framework of Pediatric Cardiology Group in the House of Hungarian Society of Cardiology. We concentrated on teaching pediatric cardiologist, obstetricians in their local Hospitals.
Our courses were highly attended:
1995 Medical University in Pécs , 1996 in Debrecen, 1997 in Szeged, 1999 in County Hospital in Győr 2010 in Miskolc. Our members give oral and poster presentations at national and international Meetings as well.
Our activities this year (2010)
One day Course in Miskolc in collaboration with Miskolc County Hospital an Academy,
Scientific Symposium in Congress of Hungarian Society of Cardiology in Balatonfüred.
We will present a Round Table discussion in the Neonatal Congress in collaboration with Pediatric Cardiology Section in 02.10.2010.

Our aims:
1. to collaborate with pediatric cardiologists/neonatologists, adult cardiologists, obstetricians to increase the number of FE and to improve the diagnostic values of FE.
2. to create the database of Hungarian fetal echocardiography
3. to organize teaching Courses, Meetings to review the newest modalities of FE
4. to give guidelines in the practical FE.
In summary : On the basis work done by our recently set up WG we hope we will be able to contribute to the improvement of the prognosiss of CHD.
