Budapest, Hungary

The capital of Hungary with a population of two million is bisected by the mighty flow of the Danube with hills and valleys on the Buda side and the flat, low-lying Pest on the other. Often described as the "Little Paris of Middle Europe", Budapest is famous not only for the monuments reflecting its 1,000 year old culture, but also for the historic relics of those who settled here. In the city, there is an unmistakable feeling that something out of the ordinary is just around the corner, but what it will be is up to you to find out.

Time Zone
Budapest is in the Central European Time (CET) zone. In the winter months this means clocks are set at GMT + 1 hour, and in the summer (March to the end of October) GMT + 2 hours.

Climate
The climate of Budapest is humid continental with warm or very warm summers. The spring months (March and April) see variable conditions, with a rapid increase in the average temperature (around 10-12 ˚C). The weather in late March and April is often very agreeable during the day and fresh at night. Budapest's long summer, lasting from May until mid-September is warm or very warm. Budapest has as much summer sunshine as many Mediterranean resorts. Sudden heavy showers also occur, particularly in May and June.

Electricity
Voltage in Hungary is 220 volts, and plugs are of the two-pin continental type.

Telephone
The international code for Hungary is 36; the area code for Budapest is 1.

Currencies
The Hungarian currency is the forint (Ft). All visitors are advised to exchange currency only at accredited places. The majority of banks have 24-hour ATM’s some of which can also exchange foreign currency. Some places will accept payment in Euros, however this is at the discretion of the venue.

Taxes
In most cases standard Value Added Tax (VAT) in 2015 is payable at a rate of 27%.
There is a reduced rate of 18%, relating to hotels and basic food and a 5% rate that relates mainly to products and services such as books and medicines.

Visa
Some delegates may require a visa to enter Hungary; more information can be found in English at www.konzuliszolgalat.kormany.hu/en

By airplane
The Liszt Ferenc International Airport (www.bud.hu) is ten miles south-east of the city centre. Terminal 2A is the departure and arrival point for flights to and from Schengen countries and Terminal 2B hosts all flights from non-Schengen countries.

More than fifty trains a day provide direct links between Budapest and no fewer than 25 other capital cities. More information can be found at www.mavcsoport.hu/en.

By car
All Hungary’s motorways and most of the main roads radiate out from the capital. The M1, M3, M5 and M7 are toll motorways, and you must pay the appropriate toll (either at the border or at larger petrol stations). Road signs conform to continental standards.

Conference Venue

Invitation

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to the 2016 Danube Symposium, organized by the Hungarian Psychiatric Association and held May 25-28, 2016 in Budapest. At this conference held in English, our colleagues will be taken on a virtual journey through space and time in order to discuss questions concerning the future of psychiatry in Europe. We have selected topics such as the competence of psychiatry and its limits; the possibilities of cooperation between psychiatrists and helpers; the role of networks in psychiatry; the relationship between psychiatry and virtual reality, especially regarding e-mental health and telepsychiatry, as well as the opportunities and challenges that telepsychotherapy faces. We will devote substantial attention to questions of transcultural psychiatry, as this field encompasses numerous pressing issues of our times.

We are looking forward to hearing about your related research, experience, and opinions, so that through discussion we may all be enriched with new perspectives, thus contributing to the renewal of 21st century psychiatry.

In the name of the Congress Organizing Committee,
