    Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology Fellowship Award
    The Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology is pleased to invite young psychiatrists from around the world-particularly Asia-to apply for the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology Fellowship Award.

    Application Deadline: October 14th, 2013  

    The purpose of this award is to recognize young, outstanding psychiatrists and encourage academic discussion and personal friendship, both among themselves and with young Japanese psychiatrists, at the 110th annual meeting of the JSPN, which will be held June 26-28, 2014, in Yokohama, Kanagawa.

    Award recipients will receive a waiver of meeting registration fees, accommodations, and a partial reimbursement of airfare (JPY 70,000 for recipients from World Bank A and B category countries, and JPY 140,000 for those from C and D countries). Award recipients will be expected to give a presentation at one of the international sessions, the themes of which are “Community Psychiatry” and “Case Vignette”, and attend other programs for JSPN Fellowship Award recipients. Award recipients will also be expected to participate in future JSPN Fellowship Award Alumni programs.  

    Applicants must choose the theme from 1 or 2 below and send an abstract within 250 words.

    1. Community Psychiarty

    The applicant is requested to describe how community psychiatry is practiced in his or her home country.  

    The description must address the following points:
    a.           How psychiatry collaborates with primary care and other physicians in community care.
    b.           How patients with comorbid mental and physical disorders are treated.
    c.           How multidisciplinary care is provided in community psychiatry.
    d.           How community psychiatry is taught at the undergraduate level.
    e.           How community psychiatry is taught during postgraduate training.


    2. Case discussion

    The applicant is requested to describe how the psychiatrists in his or her home country would deal with the care (please see the attached on our website in the vignette).  

    The description must address the following points:
    a.           How this case will be diagnosed.
    b.           What test or examinations would normally be performed in order to arrive at a diagnosis.
    c.           What the standard pharmacological treatment would be.
    d.           What the standard non-pharmacological treatment would be.
    e.           How care services would be coordinated.
    f.            What health and/or welfare services would be available.

    Applicants must:
    1. Be psychiatrists who are 40 years of age and under.
    2. Not be previous recipients of the JSPN Fellowship Award.
    3. Belong to a World Psychiatric Association member society. (To ensure broad participation from around the world, each society is limited to a maximum of two applicants.)

The secretariat will acknowledge receipt of your application.
